VAT Deregistration Services in Dubai

The official cancellation of your VAT registration.

VAT deregistration refers to the official cancellation of a company's VAT registration with the Federal Tax Authority. This is necessary when a business no longer meets the eligibility criteria for VAT registration. Companies must comply with VAT Law requirements when applying for deregistration to avoid fines and legal consequences.

Who Needs This

Mandatory, voluntary, or group deregistration.

Deregistration is mandatory once a registered company stops making taxable supplies, or once annual turnover or taxable purchases fall below AED 187,500 over the previous 12 months. Voluntary deregistration is available if 12-month turnover is between AED 187,500 and AED 375,000, or if you simply wish to cancel registration despite continuing operations. Tax Groups can also deregister once they no longer meet the group's requirements.

Timing

20 business days for mandatory deregistration.

Mandatory deregistration must be applied for within 20 business days of becoming eligible. Voluntary deregistration has no specific time restriction — you can apply at your convenience once compliance requirements are met.

What You'll Need

Documents for VAT deregistration.

  • Copy of revoked trade license
  • Letter of liquidation or board resolution confirming closure
  • Latest audited or unaudited financial statement (P&L, balance sheet, trial balance)
  • Ministry of Labor letter regarding employee count
  • Updated sales agreements or licensing documents
  • Supplier and importer details
  • Formal declaration of business closure, if required
  • Any outstanding tax payment proof
Why This Matters

What delayed deregistration costs you.

  • Failing to apply for mandatory deregistration within 20 business days carries a penalty of AED 10,000 or more
  • Unpaid tax liabilities must be cleared before deregistration is approved
  • Incomplete closure of bank accounts or uncancelled licenses are common causes of delay
